Word of Hope for Today by Bro. Rolly
Custodio
JESUS’ SHAMEFUL SACRIFICE IS FOR OUR SALVATION (PART-1)
‘… like a
lamb to the slaughter…’ Isaiah 53:7 NIV
Today’s Insight
Apparently there’s a true account of a British
electronics store that made applicants dance for each other as part of their
interviews for sales jobs. ‘I just felt so embarrassed and uncomfortable,’ said
Alan, one of the job hopefuls. ‘I ended up dancing… in front of a group of
strangers.’ Ouch.
Poor Alan experienced the
way shame makes us feel: alone, exposed, powerless. He said he felt like a fool
and wished the ground would swallow him up. Who would willingly choose to feel
shame in that way? Who, if they had the power, wouldn’t say ‘STOP! ENOUGH!’?
Jesus, that’s Who. Isaiah
writes, ‘He was “led like a lamb to the slaughter, and… He did not open his
mouth.”‘ On the cross, in the face of all that shame, of brutal torture and
gut-wrenching anguish, Jesus could have defended Himself. He could have
appealed to legions of angels to rescue Him. All it would have taken was a
word. But He chose not to. He chose powerlessness to fulfil the perfect plans
of his Father. He did it for you and me.
Application:
Thank Jesus for His willingness to become powerless
so that we could know freedom. Meditate on what His example could mean for you
and me.
Today’s Prayer
