Word of Hope for Today by Bro. Rolly Custodio

Don’t Lose Hope But Recover Immediately
‘We give great honor to those who endure…’ James 5:11 NLT

 Today’s Insight

During their famous expedition, American explorers, Lewis and Clark, faced incredible hardships. On reaching the Missouri River, they thought the worst was over – then they saw the Rockies! Instead of the easy ride downstream that they’d expected, they faced their biggest challenge: retreat or start climbing! Looking back, they realized it was in conquering the Rockies that they gained the confidence they needed for what they’d face later.

John Maxwell writes, ‘…you will become a better, stronger, wiser and more resilient person through solving problems.’ Sociologists who study resiliency – the ability to bounce back – tell us that people handle trauma in two ways. They either give up because they’re afraid, or they grow up by developing the capacity to handle it. What makes the difference? Instead of acting like victims, resilient people:

(1) Take charge of their lives;
(2) Refuse to relinquish their values;
(3) Refocus on their goal.

A challenge is a gift, a blessing in disguise. Quitting is always simpler than enduring. But it produces a pattern that’s hard to break; one you live to regret.
So if you’re thinking, ‘This relationship is too hard, I want out,’ or, ‘This job isn’t what I expected, I’m quitting,’ remember, you develop resiliency by remaining faithful in situations you don’t like and can’t change. That’s why the Bible says, ‘We give great honour to those who endure.’

Faith without Work is Dead

Word of Hope for Today by Bro. Rolly Custodio

Faith without Work is Dead
‘If you know these things…do them.’ John 13:17 NKJV

Today’s Insight

The Bible says, ‘Faith without works is dead’ (James 2:20 NKJV). Certain prayers only get answered when you take action. When the woman with the issue of blood took the initiative, pressed through the crowd and touched the hem of Jesus’ garment, He told her, ‘Take heart…your faith has healed you’ (Matthew 9:22 NIV). And on another occasion we read, ‘As He entered a certain village, there met Him ten…lepers…they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” So…He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests…”‘ (Luke 17:12-14 NKJV). According to Jewish law, an unclean person discovered in the vicinity of the temple could be stoned to death. So by following Jesus’ instructions these people were literally putting their lives on the line. But they did it, and ‘as they went they were cleansed’ (Luke 17:14 NKJV).

Jesus said, ‘If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.’ Your decisions and actions are based on what you believe. Keith Butler writes: ‘Anybody can believe…sitting in church, or when all is right in their life. But when you get outside, you find out what you’ve really got… Healing power was obviously available, and these men believed Jesus could heal them. That’s why they came to him in the first place. They didn’t doubt His ability…The key was, as soon as they did what Jesus told them they were healed.’So the word for you today is: Faith without work is dead.

Parallel verses: 2 Sam 12:1 – 14:20, Luke 7:24-35, Psa 118:10-18, Pro 18:7-9

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word today. Lord thank you for instructing me to put my faith into action that I may test my confidence in you. Lord this world is teaching to see is to believe but as your commandment tells me that I must believe first before I will see the answer and miracles that you want me to see. Lord you are the Mighty One and let my faith dwells on your Word that I may walk faithful in all my ways for your glory In Jesus’ Name. Amen!
